Hidden Village was established in the early 2000s and has grown to a 20-site, resident-owned manufactured home community.
But that transition didn’t happen overnight. We formed the Hidden Village Cooperative and started on the path to resident-ownership in 2008. That’s when, with the help of ROC Northwest and ROC USA, LLC, we purchased and took control of our community on September 12, 2008.
Now, the resident-owned community (ROC) is not only a successful business, but also a thriving neighborhood. We manage the property ourselves and rely on all of our residents to help make the community a wonderful place to live.
The process of the resident-owned community buying the land beneath our neighborhood brought this community closer together. Not only do we know far more of our neighbors than ever before, but we look out for one another, too. And with no outside landlord to report to, we’re the envy of other nearby manufactured home communities.
Our Member households elect our Board of Directors and also appoints various volunteer committees to help with special projects, celebrations, community improvements and more. The Board submits a budget every year, and the entire Membership votes on it and any changes to the rent before the budget becomes official. We’re running the business that is our community on our terms, by our rules, for the betterment of ourselves and our neighbors.
Hidden Village couldn’t be better situated. Our “Hidden Village” in Olympia, Wash., is close to several grocery stores, banks, restaurants, a movie theater, South Sound Center Shopping Mall and many more amenities.
We are located in the North Thurston School District of Lacey/Olympia area and the schools are very close by. If you enjoy walking, amenities are within walking distance on a nice day. Rainier Vista Community Park is less than five miles away. This 46-acre park features sports fields, a skate park, trails, a playground and open areas for picnicking. We have many miles of paved walking and biking trails very close by and beaches like Tolmie State Park and Nisqually Wildlife Refuge. We have the best of both worlds, access to large cities and a small-town, community feel.
Since we voted to become a resident-owned community, we have worked hard to improve our community. We have put up new signs and fencing, planted flowers and trimmed trees. We strive to keep our community looking beautiful and we pride ourselves in keeping our community strong and united. Our social committee holds events throughout the year, which sometimes includes the chance for our members to win prizes. It’s a great way to strengthen our community and meet new members. And everyone always has fun!
Hidden Village is a well-established community for people who enjoy a welcoming neighborhood in an ideal location.
Ask anyone who lives in Hidden Village, and we’re sure they’ll tell you it’s a little slice of heaven.
